Well, I ended up boiling it down a bit too much, but eff it. I was planning to split off a gallon before I did my final hop additions, but I was tied up with baking bread and making supper. I'm just going with it at the lower volume/higher gravity. I only drink one beer at a time, anyway, so who cares if its crushable?

Careful, one of those and you're going to have another mouth to feed running around there in a bit under a year.

I hope you fuckers are happy. When I went to pour from my kettle to the carboy, I saw a huge bug in the wort.

At first, I thought it was a roach, and was prepared to dump the entire batch. Boiled or not, I don't think I can drink roach beer.

Turns out, it's a moth. I managed to keep it out of the fermentor. I think I can live with that.

Roaches are indeed nasty. They are also a fact of life in the south.

Since Plan got some good water advice, what about water for a Flanders Red? I'm thinking something like this:

Ca: 70+
Mg: 5
Na: 20
Cl: 100
SO4: 60-70

Thoughts?

Plan? Dang autocorrect. I type Olan's name enough you'd think my phone would know it by now. Sorry mate.

I'm with Olan. If I found a roach in by wort during the boil, I think I'd scoop it out and roll with it. But I wouldn't feel good about it, and the beer would forever remain tainted.

My phone still tries to call me plan from time to time.

I am so buying some window screen before I brew again.

That water looks good to me, but I'm not a Flanders guy, so what do I know?

Also, fuck roaches.

Roaches are actually incredibly clean. They spend 98.7% of their day preening themselves. They are actually 5x cleaner than a dog's mouth.

J/K roaches are fucking gross. I would dump it just on the off chance that moth ever touched a roach at some point in its life.

I am so glad that this was a joke. I was considering adding you to the "never speak to again" club, but luckily, you were just screwing with me.

Ugh, roaches. Ugh.
