Heating strike water now. Needing more lactic acid than I had expected, but not quite as much as I've used on IPAs before.
Wish me luck! We all know that I'll need it.

Here's to fewer "Olan's" today!

You are so sweet!

And we already have the first big eff up of the day!
Whenever I brew a new recipe, I just copy one of my existing Bru'n Water spreadsheets; who wants to re-enter all of that water report stuff again?

So, I had everything set up, was surprised at how much lactic acid I needed... durr. I had copied a 7 gallon batch, I'm only doing 5.5. I hadn't adjusted my mash and sparge volumes in the sheet (but had done so on the stovetop).
Dumped it out, warming water again... I didn't feel like I needed that extra 25% or so of the minerals.

So, at least you caught the screw up. Here's hoping no more happen.
I'm currently boiling the Flanders Red. Briess tried to give me some free adjuncts in my Munich 10. One kernel of corn and one navy bean. Other than that, no real problems ..... yet.......

lol @ free adjuncts.
If I hit my gravity, I'll be stunned. My mash tun decided to pick today to spring a leak around the valve. I've had that happen once or two before, I always just wiggle the valve a bit and the rubber washer seals properly. Not today.
I ended up with probably a pint to a quart of first runnings on my kitchen floor, hard to say. I thought that I figured it out when I drained the mash, before I added spareg water... I made it MUCH worse. Had to do a super quick stir and just hope for the best on the sparge.
Hopefully, the bump in efficiency that I usually get from the Brew Bag will close to equal it out...

Im having a nice relaxing day. Brewed the last how many weekends, so i actually have too much beer here right now.
I should take some time to keg my other batch of Red IPA, though i kinda wanna dry hop it. Not sure i want to try dry hopping in the keg yet.

Also, i decided to make an overpowered Civ 5 map and turned the difficulty down. This game might not last too long...im already way ahead on technology, my religion is kicking ass, etc.

I've got almost a half extra ounce of cluster hops. I think I'm just gonna toss them in at flameout for a little more aroma. Any reason not to?

"My mash tun decided to pick today to spring a leak around the valve. "
everyone gave me shit when i noted that as a weakness of plastic tuns. i had it happen once or twice a year
Posted 34 days ago.
Man, i havent had an issue with mine in...3.5? years.
Posted 34 days ago.
I've had a couple of dribbles in the past. This was my first real leak in a hair over 3 years.

Well, I ended up boiling off just a tad too much to hit my intended gravity. I nave 5.25 gallons of 1.052 wort instead of 5.5 gallons of the same.
I'm calling this a success.
