My last brew day (not counting a cider, hardly counts as brewing) was in early October and I'm starting to miss brewing a bit. To help motivate me, I've decided to brew a few beers that I might enter in the NHC 2016 comp - I figure if I force myself to have a deadline, I'll start brewing sooner.

One of the beers I'll be making is a somewhat modified Cream Ale I entered in a local comp; it didn't score very high, but I like the way it tastes and judges' feedback indicated flaws I know how to address. While I was tempted to use a Kolsch yeast, the previous attempt was with US-05 so I'll likely stick to it.

I did wonder about one thing, though: would an extended cold crash period (say, two weeks) benefit a Cream Ale, hopefully giving it a cleaner, crisper taste? Would it essentially be lagering?

I can't imagine that it would hurt.  Lagering, after all, is simply extended cold storage.

Thanks; I'm hoping this step and the other changes will make that beer popular with my BMC-drinking friends/family, while still enjoyable for me. I'll post the recipe once it is finalized (still tweaking the grain bill a bit).
