Was kind of annoying, but ultimately I'm pretty happy about it. Well, other than I put the 13 mark on wrong by about 1/2" on my other kettle.

That looks great, man!

Etched in the wrong spot? I've never met anyone who makes mistakes like that...

Marking took a while, the actual etching is QUICK. I can have my Wife Cricut you a set of #s if you like, then throw them in the mail. All told, including figuring out the gallon increments, probably 90m for 2 kettles.

I filled the kettle with 2 gallons, markets that. Then added 4 more (total of 6) marked that, measured, and interpolated all other gallon markings. I double-checked this by using geometry (

) and it checked out as correct to within a quart over 14 gallons.

here's the measurements for a morebeer kettle:

Gallon Measurement from Bottom
1 1 3/16
2 2 3/8
3 3 9/16
4 4 3/4
5 5 15/16
6 7 1/8
7 8 5/16
8 9 1/2
9 10 11/16
10 11 7/8
11 13 1/16
12 14 1/4
13 15 7/16
14 16 5/8

Stupid question time:

How does one effectively mark the inside of a kettle for etching when you use water to measure? Sharpie? Something else?

I used a sharpie. To do again, I would just have measured and not bother marking, as the sharpie was useless for a while after it got too wet. grease pencil/china marker would probably have been better.

The wet is my concern.

@Chal - I basically used thishttp://blog.craftbeertraders.com/how-to-etch-your-kettle/

except I had my wife make the templates for me. And I used math/measurements to locate the marks, and I used an 18V cordless drill battery instead of a 9V.
